Curated by Keith Garcia, Programming Manager, Denver Film Society In 1968, young filmmaker George A. Romero made a movie that cast such an impression that we're still picking at its delicious bones. His film Night Of The Living Dead introduced the world to the zombie, a figure brought back from the dead to eat the living and, well...walk around. For seven horrifying weeks the Denver Film Society takes a bite out of the best films that broke loose from Romero's inspiration and some that are keeping the Zombie genre alive and well.

| | DocNight Only recently in the popular consciousness has the documentary emerged as a compelling art form-one every bit as dramatic as the fictional counterparts that have long overshadowed it. Hosted by Denver Post film critic Lisa Kennedy and attended in person by the directors themselves, DocNight shines a spotlight on the genre from all angles-the investigations it undertakes, controversies it awakens and discoveries it makes-with Q&A sessions and filmmaker receptions to follow each screening. Sponsored by JUST MEDIA and THE DENVER POST Thursday, July 17 - 7:00pm NOTE BY NOTE: THE MAKING OF STEINWAY L1037 Director Ben Niles and the Steinway L1037 IN-PERSON Note By Note is a documentary that follows the creation of a Steinway concert grand, #L1037- from forest floor to concert hall. It explores the relationship between musician and instrument, chronicles the manufacturing process, and illustrates what makes each Steinway unique in this age of mass production. From the factory floor in Queens to Steinway Hall in Manhattan, each piano's journey is complex-spanning 12 months, 12,000 parts, 450 craftsmen, and countless hours of fine-tuned labor. MORE...
Upcoming DocNight films: TBD

Occurs the second Friday of the month at 6pm. Sponsored by AMERICAN NATIONAL BANK

Thursday, July 24 at 7:00pm and Saturday, July 26 at 2:30pm MAHOGANY (1975) with THE EYES OF LAURA MARS (1978) The fashion of the late Seventies was so memorable and iconic that it even became the backdrop for big-budget film projects. Skilled local comics Matt Vogl and Harrison Raines (along with guests), armed only with their wits and three gleaming microphones, take on some of Hollywood's most questionable films. A unique film experience is yours for the taking when you believe in the magic of Mile High Sci-Fi! MHSF is decidedly ADULT humor. If you decide to bring the kids, get ready to cover their ears. Sponsored by DALE'S PALE ALE, THE ONION, COMEDY WORKS and WAHOO'S FISH TACOS Friday & Saturday, July 25 & 26 - 8:30pm THE TERMINATORIn the year 2029, with the world falling apart around them, the leaders of the world conveniently blame a woman from the past. So they figure if they just send someone back in time to whack her, everything will be groovy. Save the future by sending someone to the past - and do it without the assistance of Michael J. Fox and his Delorean. But the one they send back is not your average steroid-popping bodybuilder from the future. No, they send back The Terminator - a super high-tech lethal killing machine (and steroid popping body builder). Silly? Of course it is. But the filmmakers figured out the way to make a good Arnold Schwarzenegger movie: make him the lead, but only give him a few lines. Who can take on the Terminator? MHSF, that's who. Bring it Governator. We're waiting for you.
